Pumpkin Pie Smoothie
It’s officially pumpkin season, and while I’ll never turn down a good pumpkin recipe, I also firmly believe it’s always smoothie season in my book.
So why not combine the two?
If you’re pumpkin spice latte obsessed like me, this Pumpkin Pie Protein Smoothie is basically the fall morning answer to that craving. It’s creamy, cozy, naturally sweet, and tastes a little bit like pumpkin pie in a glass — but with plenty of protein, fiber, healthy fats, and zero grams of added sugar.
And yes, there is cauliflower in it. I promise you won’t taste it.
You can absolutely get more Top Chef than me and roast your own pumpkin to make homemade pumpkin puree, but most mornings I’m reaching for the organic canned pumpkin. It’s easy, affordable, nutrient-packed, and gets the job done.
So grab your blender, your pumpkin spice, and your coziest sweater. Let’s make breakfast taste like fall.
A cozy fall breakfast or snack that tastes like dessert but is packed with protein, fiber, and nourishing fats.
Recipe
Servings: 1
Ingredients
½ cup pumpkin puree
1 frozen banana
1 scoop vanilla protein powder
1 cup milk of choice
½ cup frozen cauliflower rice
1 tablespoon almond butter
1–2 teaspoons pumpkin pie spice
A splash of vanilla extract
Ice, as needed
Instructions
Add all ingredients to a high-speed blender and blend until creamy and smooth.
Taste and adjust the pumpkin spice or vanilla if desired.
Pour into your favorite glass, add a sprinkle of pumpkin pie spice on top, and enjoy!
Make It Even More Nourishing
Want to add a little extra staying power? Add 1 tablespoon of chia seeds or ground flaxseed.
Both are great sources of fiber, and flax and chia also provide plant-based omega-3 fatty acids. They’re an easy way to give your smoothie an extra nutritional boost without changing the flavor much.
Why I Love This Smoothie
Pumpkin = more than just a fall decoration
Pumpkin is packed with beta-carotene, which your body converts to vitamin A. Vitamin A supports immune function, healthy skin, and vision. Pumpkin also provides fiber and potassium, making it a surprisingly nutrient-dense addition to your morning smoothie.
Protein helps make it a meal
Adding protein powder turns this from a fun fall smoothie into a much more balanced breakfast. Protein helps support muscle, keeps you feeling satisfied, and can help prevent the “I had a smoothie an hour ago and I’m already starving” situation.
Fiber for fullness and gut health
Pumpkin, banana, cauliflower, and optional chia or flax all contribute fiber. Fiber supports digestion, helps keep you fuller for longer, and is an important part of a healthy gut.
And the cauliflower? It’s one of my favorite smoothie tricks. Frozen cauliflower rice adds volume, fiber, and nutrients while keeping the smoothie creamy without adding a strong flavor.
Healthy fats for balance
Almond butter adds a deliciously creamy texture along with healthy unsaturated fats. Adding some fat to your smoothie alongside protein and fiber helps create a more balanced, satisfying breakfast.
Pumpkin spice without the sugar bomb
This smoothie gives you all those classic pumpkin pie and PSL flavors without needing flavored syrups or added sugar.
The banana provides natural sweetness, while pumpkin pie spice and vanilla bring all the cozy fall flavor.
My Balanced Breakfast Formula
One of my favorite ways to think about breakfast is:
Protein + fiber + healthy fat + carbohydrates = a more satisfying, balanced meal.
This smoothie checks all four boxes.
And if you’re a PSL lover, this is your reminder that you don’t have to give up the foods and flavors you love to eat well. Sometimes it’s simply about finding a version that gives you more nourishment and more staying power.
So keep the PSL dates on the calendar, but make this smoothie part of your fall rotation, too.
Happy pumpkin season!
